Hikesoul is an outdoor equipment store based in Boston, Massachusetts. We sell gear for people who walk — day-hikers on the Blue Hills and the Middlesex Fells, weekenders heading north to the Whites and the Greens, and anyone who has learned that the difference between a good day out and a miserable one is usually something small in the bottom of a pack.

What we stock, and why

We are deliberately narrow. Trekking poles and hiking sticks, backpacks and hydration packs, sleeping bags and camping mattresses, stoves and cookware, bottles and filters, and weather protection. That is the list. We do not sell apparel, and we do not stock a hundred variations of the same product to pad out a catalogue.

The selection leans toward the practical middle of the market: kit that packs down small, weighs less than the version you already own, and does not cost more than the trip it is for. Poles make up a larger share of our range than most stores our size, because they are the single piece of equipment that changes how a descent feels and the one most walkers put off buying the longest.

Who we are for

The walker who wants one good pole set rather than three cheap ones. The person planning a first overnight and unsure which sleeping bag rating is honest. Anyone who has stood in a big-box aisle holding two near-identical packs with no way to tell them apart. We would rather stock fewer things and be able to say something useful about each of them.

Where we are going

We are a young store and we are not going to pretend otherwise. The plan for the next year is depth rather than breadth: more detail on each product page, real weights and packed dimensions on everything, and a small set of route-based guides for the trails our customers actually walk. If there is gear you think we should carry, tell us — at this size, we can still act on it.
